First Passengers

As I´m typing the first passengers will be boarding the ship. I don´t start my duties until 4 pm (when I´m on call) so I thought I´d escape into town for a bit, brave the post office nd attempt to buy som postcards!

My Spanish is expanding everyday and hopefully will continue to do so, as I´m getting fed up of pointing to myself and saying ´Ingles´ with an apologetic shrug. This morning starts the 5 months of being in Uniform. The only time I am permitted not to wear my uniform is if I´m in my cabin, or leaving the ship. I also don´t have to wear it if I´m walking around crew areas, however as my cabin is on a passenger deck this make it quite tricky!

It is 29´C outside right now. Blue sky with a few clouds and a slight breeze. It feels like the middle of summer which is making it nigh on impossible to believe it´s CHRISTMAS tommorow!!!! There is a service in the morning at 10. I really want to go but I´m not going finish work until at least 3am so we´ll see!

We sail at midnight and I´m not entirley sure where I´ll be tommorow so I hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas Day, and try to remember what it´s actually about and not stress over the other stuff :)

Santa Cruz

We´re here, It took 2 days at sea and a lot of getting used to but we made it one piece!

I´m in an interent cafe at the mo, and very quickly realising that I need to learn Spanish!!!!!

My cabin is right in the nose of the ship so I hear everything when I´m in there, I can here the waves crashing against the side (quite relaxing if slightly worrying!) and the anchor being released (that was fun at 6:15am this morning) but over all it´s great.

I didn´t get sea sick - wooooo. Boy was I glad. The trick I´ve found is to make sure you eat a lot, quite easy as the food onboard is great.

Most of the shows are all settled now, and I´m getting pretty quick on the laptop for all the gameshows in High Spirits so all is going smoothly.

Gotta go, time about to run out!

DJ Bex in da house....

Yeah, not really convincing is it!

Tommorow we set sail for the first time. We´re heading for Santa Cruz, Tenerife. This´ll be my first experience sailing on a cruise ship and I have a packed day tomorrow so I´m hoping sea-sickness isn´t going to play a huge part!

Spent the last couple of days learning how to operate the sound/light equipment onboard and learning about some of my daily duties. I now know how to do the ´background music tour´, something I have to do everyday at about 4:30/5pm. Oh yes folks, I am in charge of the wonderful sounds passengers (or PAX) will hear when say....travelling in a lift.....?! I´m also STage Managing ´Hobson´s Choice´and am in the booth for ´Tales form the West Side´- see if you can guess which well known musical this is from ;)

Most of the rest of my duties take place in´High Spirits´, a bar/lounge on the deck above the main performance area ("The Broadway show lounge") which also happens to be one of the coldest and ´rockiest´places on the ship - yey. The weather has been lovely and sunny with a balmy breeze. Nothing like the temperatures we will get in the Canaries but very weird for December. I can´t believe it´s christmas on Friday - I had a hard enough time remembering today was sunday!?!

Oh, and I got my name badge today - Rebbecca Key, DJ

or as I´m beginning to be called - DJ Bex, ahhh a title to be proud of, hehe!

Bon Voyage!

Here I am.

Sat in my cabin having just removed the extra RAM I had put in my laptop before I left, because it decided it didn´t like it! It was an interesting experience - I had to be earthed to do it (static and that) so this invloved signing off the ship, walking down the gang plank, and sitting on a huge metal mooring pin. Still the sun was blazing and a fresh breeze was blowing, so the looks from the passing crewmen went almost unnoticed:)

I have a cabin to myself which is funky. I get this privilege because I keep much later hours than everyone else so I won´t be disturbing anyone (except possibly the passengers in the cabin next to me!

The flight over was alright. I was sat by a lady who was meeting her family at the airport for a holiday. We shared life stories whilst admiring the amazing scenery out of the cabin window. (Pic´s later)

It was the ships first day out of dry dock when I arrived. The mini-bus arrived and there was no gangplank to get on board. So me, my lñuggage and a few others were ´craned´onboard in a big metal cage. Was a tad dubious, but what a way to make an entrance!

Off into the Wild Blue Yonder!

Just a quick post.

This is it, in about 10mins I shall be on my way to the bus station, the airport, and the ship. 6 months living on the "Thomson Spirit" are about to begin. Prayers and mojo much appreciated!

It's coming up quick!

Ey up, Firday morning is nearly here. It's weird to think that this time next week I'll have spent my first weekend aboard ship.

It only started to sink in last week on my trip home from Leeds (a journey which I shall be repeating tommorow). I've been running around like a loon for the last few days and haven't really had to time to stop and take stock. After I've taken the final load of stuff up to the flat in Leeds and have to concentrate on packing I'm sure it'll hit home!

Had 2 great Christmas days. One with Mum, Jo + Vix last Monday and one yesterday with Dad and his wife Jo. Got some funky presents, although I'm saving some of them for Christmas Day :)

Had a fun time this evening with a whole Merry Band of Wythall Theatre Company peeps for the Christmas quiz - so much hilarity!

I FOUND IT!!!

Finally, after almost 2 years of searching I found out the name of a piece of music that has haunted me for ages! I blogged about it here, and this evening I have discovered it's title - next step, getting the sheet music.

It is : Prelude No. 4 in E minor Opus 28
By: Frederic Chopin

Crafty Weekend

Well Chaps,

2 weeks today I'll be on the ship. It'll be my first full day aboard, wonder how it'll all be looking! eeek, nerves starting to kick in. Although at the minute am doind my usual 'bang up' job of ignoring the fact I'm leaving and throwing myself into my 'list of things to do'. Which seems to get longer everyday and not shorter!

So yeah, went a bit arty this weekend. Ted, director of SYETE asked me to make him a crown for one of the skits he does at his Lodge. Now, I never really had an opinion of what Lodges were about before I met Ted. But between him and Pete (Dr. Cornish in SYETE) I have a quite colourful idea :) Anyhoo, here are the stages of crown making. It's amazing what you can do with £10 and 2 hours on a lazy Friday!

Also been having a go at my own christmas cards - what d'ya think?

News In Brief

Had hair cut on Monday. 4 inches now gone - nobody really noticed, but is now considerably curlier!

Have finished working at the bar, but am still trying to get my Mini-disc player from Russell, arrgghhh.

Some persons decided it would be entertaining to come down our road at about midnight on Saturday/Sunday and puncture (with the aid of a Stanley Knife)tyres, including the two rear one's on my car. It has cost me £80 to have them replaced, if I ever catch those kids they better pray I'm feeling merciful.

The President of Wythall Theatre Company, Jack, died on Tuesday. I found out at rehearsal last night. He was at rehearsal on Monday and was saying that I was now in the lead for the title "best legs" in the company! He was a very spry 87-year-old with a great sense of wit and perfect comic timing, he will be missed by many people.

Planetary Personality

Never done one of these before - but the space theme tempted me.

You Are From the Moon

You can vibe with the steady rhythms of the Moon.
You're in touch with your emotions and intuition.
You possess a great, unmatched imagination - and an infinite memory.
Ultra-sensitive, you feel at home anywhere (or with anyone).
A total healer, you light the way in the dark for many.

Lady of Leisure

Well that's it. I have now officially finished work for the next 3 weeks until my time aboard the good ship 'Spirit' begins. It was a fairly usual day - except I was in the kitchen because AJ got stranded at the NEC! They'd written me a leaving card which was lovely - and totally unexpected, which is a novelty for me ;)

There is only one major downside. And that is that Russell (TPTB) hasn't yet sorted out my new mini-disc player. After mine was stolen form the club he said he'd sort out getting me a new one. Well that was over a month a go and he appears to have done Jack about it. I've gotten him proof of ownership, a price for a new one, heck, I even went on the net and found it cheaper AND gave him a print out of the website. He was having a particularly bad week at on point so he told me not to mention for a week - so I didn't mention it - for TWO weeks, and now he's just being bloody awkward! I know he's having hassle's, but heck, he ain't seen nothing if this doesn't get sorted. He could just give me the money and I could get it, maybe then he'd actually have the incentive to sort it out with the insurer's!

A Family in SIMS 2 had Twins - v. exciting!

Have found this fab new online game - Racing Frogs, mine's called FEEK and I race in Stumpy Creek. We used to have this on the table consoles at The Opal Lounge, definitely a good laugh!

Winter Night's

It's snowing...in November....WTH?

The Sea Safety course on Monday went well. 9 hours was a long time to be sat in a cold room learning about Risk assessment (which I already knew from my Uni course) and Safety procedures at sea. But it has helped me to a be a lot more prepared should something happen!

Met most of the rest of the entertainment team. Very nice folks, looks like it should be a good laugh. We're doing the shows, cabaret acts, a murder mystery and also a play - "Hobson's Choice" as well as them getting the chance to do individual Cabaret's if they so desire all sounds fab!

Oh, and my boss lady's surname is....Pickard - (Sad ST:TNG reference for anyone confused!)

Was in work at 9am this morning because some 'Coor's' people were having an all day meeting. It took me 1hr to get into town, that's ridiculous! Especially when your car is making all sorts of noises :S

I'm leaving work at the end of next week. To give myself the 2 weeks I need to sort everything out. Only a month before I'm off to the wild's of the Canaries for 6 months aboard the good ship 'Thomson Spirit'. On a bizarre note, the receptionist form my Dr's is going to be onboard in March - small world or what!

FREAKY HAPPENING'S:
Have no Draught Beer at work this week. Everytime someone had to chose a different drink yesterday I knew what they wanted before they said it.

And this morning I was listening to Radio 2, and after they had played one song they mentioned about the 24hour music marathon for Children in Need. You can get in touch, donate some money and they'll play a song for you. At that moment I decided I'd like to hear 'Keeping the dream Alive' (can't remember who by - and just walked in on a weird scenario trying to find out, so won't bother) and lo and behold what was the next song they played.... Really quite bizarre!

And now it's down!

Ah yes, a lovely double entendre fits the end of the run perfectly! The last night went pretty good. Beryl (prompt) was needed a few times but that didn't really make any difference to the flow. Son + Ad, Brett + Clare, Liz + Leanne (regulars from PB) were there, along with Granny, Trisha (Aunt), Jo + Vicky so alot of folks in! We had about 3 rows of the circle full aswell which was great :)

Here's a few photo's: (click to see large version)

Gotta go up to Leeds in a bit to drop some stuff off at the flat and got to the B'n'B I'm staying in tonight before the SOLAS course tommorow - sea saftey certificate requierd for working on cruise ships. I get to meet some of the team members as well which'll be good!

Isn't it beginning to feel like Christmas?......

And the curtain's up!

Third night is over - only one more to go!

Has been going pretty well. Got a good review in the Birmingham Evening Mail
I was remembered as " the high-rise tart with the high-rise hem line"
which was very true on the first night - was having a serious problem with my
stockings that night!

Really been enjoying being back on stage, forgotten what the buzz was like! The first night I nearly freaked just before curtain up had one of those "I'd like to wake up form this dream NOW" moments. But it all went fine ans the audience really enjoyed it. Nick( from Pacific Blue)was there with his girlfriend and when I saw him today I got his feedback, think he had a blast :)

T,D + H can't come and watch, something about a friend's birthday party and a rugby tournament, so I sent him this photo to show him what he'd be missing imagine his response!;)

We had 2 guy's come today to fit new windows in the back of the house. The bathrooms look really bizarre with plastic not wood frames, kind of cool seeing the rooms without windows though.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLOG

Actually things with TDH may continue, he's going to come and see me in the play next week.....

If you skip over to this blog you will find some very cute pictures of Moffy's Biggest Fan fuflilling his week's ambition of washing her!

I have just checked and I realise I have been posting on this blog for exactly one year...

***"HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR BLOOOO-OOOG...."***

One of those days, but with a major good point!

Moffy is playing up, something to do with her fuel pump I think. I'll work it out at some point!

This is my first night at home (ie no rehearsals/work/social event) for practically 2 weeks! I'm shattered! Work today was a fiasco, everyone's getting fed up with disorganisation scenario and the lack of stock/change. It's not helping us do out jobs and we're losing customer's.

Having said that 2 of the regulars (Liz+Leanne) are coming to watch the play next week! Rehearsals are going OK. We had our last 'out of theatre' rehearsal last night. It was a bit naff but the room wasn't very good and everyone's getting tired. We got to rehearse on the stage on Wednesday and it made such a difference. It felt sooo much better, even if most of the bits we were concentrating on were mine and I had to stand up for a looong time in the high heels! There's a preview in this week's Redditch Advertiser there is a photo as well so everyone has a view of my stocking tops....classy :)

Had a blast at my social events last week. Clare's birthday meal was good. Got to chat to a couple of people I wouldn't normally. Felt a bit out of place, but had a fun evening!

Naomi + Scott's wedding reception was great. She looked gorgeous and the evening was a blast. Saw loads of the actor's from my year at Uni. I found it quite amusing when each one of them asked "What are you doing here" to which I truthfully replied "I was invited".

Had even more fun when I offered Robbie, Simon, Tashi + Mark a lift to their hotel. See the entry entitled "Halloween 76: The Bournville 5"

I think Tall, Dark + Handsome has given up on me - kind of understandable seen as I've not exactly been available. Shame though, really like him.

Now to the good point: I have a job for when I come back. Not only that but...
*It's Stage Management
*It's for a Christian Event
*It's in Birmingham
How cool! I had a meeting with Jon Hitching this morning about the event called "b-cent 23-7". Basically next year is the Church of England in Birmingham's centenary and during the coming months loads of events are going on. This event will be the culmination for the whole year - it's a massive youth event lasting all day with a main stage, bands, speakers, Graffiti Wall, Velcro Wall, Break Dancing Area, Craft Tent + prayer tent. It's gonna rock :)! I can't really do much until I have all the tech specs for the bands etc, but most of my job will be keeping on top of everything and ensuring everything and everyone is where they are supposed to be - fabulous:) This really is an answered prayer and will still needs lots of it during the year!

2 weeks 'til curtain up

Yup, 2 weeks tonight I shall be tucked up in bed having done the opening night of "Shut Your Eyes and Think of England"

And all that needs to be done in the mean time is that a few members of cast really need to learn their lines, we need all the props, Adam and I really need a sofa to get the 'kiss of life' bit right, some pace needs to be added to certain/most scenes and I need to get used to my shoes and having my legs on display.

Piece of Cake........

We're rehearsing 4 night's this week and next week which is taking it's toll on my ability to remember which day it is. Also we have a publicity shoot in Redditch on Saturday. I have to wear my costume - short skirt an' all..... should blend right in!

Last Saturday met up with the tall, dark-haired banker. Went well so hopefully meeting up again this weekend (that is if I can find time between the birthday paty, the wedding reception, rehearsal's, playing drum's in church and the publicity shoot!)

Small Miracle's

Well, I guess no miracle is small but the item concerened is.

At about 12:15am on Saturday morning some g*t stole my Wallet, Phone + Mini-disc player (a present from my Dad) out of my bag at work. I know the time because from 12-2 there was only 2 staff there with bags in the cloakroom and one of them was a carrier bag that obviously didn't look like a viable target. Somewhere on the reams of CCTV we have their faces (although I have my suspicions about a group of about 5 guys who tried to gate crash upstairs and generally made themselves look like complete t*****s and before getting moved down by security) and if I ever see them again - no mercy.

So if you live in the central Birmingham area and someone you know has just aquired a light grey 'Quicksilver' wallet along with RAC membership/National Trust Membership and Morris Minor Owner's Club Membership (although strangely, doesn't own one - and wouldn't be seen dead in one) and has apparently given blood in Scotland then do leave a message.

As you can imagine I was a bit peeved. Mainly about the inconvinience, although strangely I didn't feel like my privacy had been violated or particularly upset. But then I had been having funny thoughts about stuff getting nicked all day(should've taken the hint really!)and I think I was in a bit of shock. I was also so angry at the guy's who'd done it, I mean, just 'cos there too lazy to get off their arses and do something about getting a job that would mean they could buy stuff/get cash for themselves they take it from other people and this somehow helps them feel better. To me it seems like it would make them feel worse and not like they actually owned anything they had and that's why they have so little regard for property; their own or other people's.

The police were there until 3:30am and then I got to come home and cancel my card's etc.

I was a tad worried about coming home. I had no phone and no RAC card should something go wrong with the car (it was one of 'those' days - anything could happen!) but we made it safely.

The main thing I was stressing about was my Driving Licence. It has all your detail's on it, including your address, and I was really worried they'd try and use the information to do something.

I prayed hard about it over the weekend, and then this morning the miracle occured.
A Lady (Claire) appeared at the front door. Her Father-in-Law is a Street Cleaner in B'ham City Centre (you know, the one's with those funny machines) and whilst he had been cleaning out the rubbish from the sweeper he'd found my Driving Licence! And as she lives in Wythall he'd passed it on to her and she'd come to drop it off!!!! How amazing is that!

A Woman's Perogative

After yesterday's post I was a little apprehensive about rehearsal this evening - I shouldn't have been.

It was a blast. Far less pressure, there was only about 8 of us there and we were concentrating on the first 17 pages so a lot more character work got done. I now have to be a lot more 'forceful' and Adam is a bit more 'horrible'(for want of a better word) and it helped out first scene soooo much! Changed the blocking a bit and had about 5 different direction's for one particualr part - mainly all the men wanting to see more of me! Finally went with my Dad's idea (!?) of lying back on the sofa and being 'enticing'! Oh yes, it's gonna be a riot!

They also cut the bit where I bend over with my behind to the audience and then twist round to lie on top of Adam, whilst kissing him. Am so glad, makes it more funny, less hazardous and a hell of a lot easier. Now I just hoik my skirt up and kneel astride him before lying on him - and hopefully not crushing him!

If you're coming to see the show then watch my arm muscle's at this point because I am having to hold myself above him and then pull him up with me when I sit up - they will be strained!

Set/Scenery painting on Saturday, hopefully get some photo's and achieve my usual trick of colouring Beryl's hair!

On an unrelated note, I received all my paper work from PEEL this morning and so now have to plow through it all and send it back. It include's Medical's (for some reason they need a chest X-ray, thinking a foot one might be more helpful in my position!), E111, A Seaman's Log from the Bahamian Authorities (WTH?) etc. So gonna be killing a small rainforest but hopefully will get everything sorted soon!

Oh yes, and am meeting a tall, handsome man in town for drinks on Saturday......

"Woah doggy"

Expression above courtesy of Nathan Wylie Van Kampen!

Man haven't posted for a bit.

SIMS 2 plods along begrudgingly on my laptop, am in discussion with Nick Bridgen as to adding RAM to help (I think so - a decent graphics card might be handy too!) but hey, it's playable even if the graphics are top notch and it's a bit jerky and slow - and it rocks! I keep finding things they can do, and they have wants and fears now to make it more interesting. They can even send each other emails on the computer as well as cooking specific things for meals - Faayyybb

The rehearsal for the show last night was PainfuL. Most of the folks with cameo parts (ie Me, Adam, Joy, Edd (in absentia!), Pete) knew our lines and what we were up to. Whereas those with bigger parts (no Father's name's mentioned!) seemed to lose the plot after about 4 pages and the evening stretched out before us like a horrible vacum of anti-comedy.

Then certain people were whinging about how little direction some of us were getting and felt like slapping them and telling them to 'stop being so b****y childish' and "if they had problem to speak to the director AND STOP FLIPPIN COMPLAINING TO ME!!!!!"

Having composed myself enough to deal with wearing my costume for the first time - (oh yes, the short skirt and revealing top was decided upon - quel surprise!)- and having that much of my legs on display (that being practically all of them) the last thing I needed was a load of back stabbing! Don't get me wrong, they're a lovely bunch, but most people (me included) was having foul day yesterday and just weren't in the mood to be there.

Also, another thing struck me. We usually go to the pub after rehearsal (I say we, lately it's been me, Adam and Edd!) and I miss it when we don't. Last night I reaslised why. Practically everyone in the company has got someone to go home too. Someone they can discuss the evning with and who will (hopefully!) sympathise with their point of view or just listen to them and then give them a hug, kiss and tell then it'll all work out in the end.
I don't have anyone who's there for me. I come home and, if I've not had the chance to chill out and vent some frustration through conversation and a laugh at the pub, I sit and brood over the evenings event's and occasionally it really gets to me. I'm very receptive (usually) to emotion's, vibes and situation's going on around me, even when people don't realise I can tell. This makes it even worse to go home and have no way of working out my feeling's other than by letting the water-works run for a few minutes.
I do enjoy it and I love those guy's, they're like a random family to me, but sometimes I feel as if they don't know me at all.

Here goes nothing...

My letter has arrived from PEEL. Should hopefully get my contract and more details within the week! I keep thinking about all the practicalities, my car, my direct debits, my flat - man, it's mind boggling! But have prayed a lot about it and am still very excited so the letter goes tomorrow morning :)

*huh hmm*

Am supposed to be saving money for my SOLAS course etc, however I was too lured by 'The Sims 2' and 'Relative Values'. It was on TV yesterday and I only managed to catch 10 minutes of it - I'm intrigued!

Have most of my costume together for the play, just need a red-70's style-revealing top (am about to go surfing for some idea's!) and certain items of lingerie! I will take photo's in rehearsal tomorrow night! We're not rehearsing Wednesday (due to the hall being otherwise engaged and most people -Inc. The Director- being away!) so I have the day off AND an evening to myself - WOW! Although Moffy is going to have her carburetor looked at. For more info on that and the entertaining drive back from Leeds, look here.

'We are sailing....We are sailing'

Am one very excited, scared + happy bunny right now!

One of the errands I had to run in Leeds was a job interview with the company mentioned in this post.

Well, it went pretty flippin' good if I do say so myself and...

I have a job - woooo, one that has something to do with my degree and utilizes skills learned at other degree related jobs (ie Pontin's!)

I am now the proud owner of the title: 2nd Technician(Sound+Light's)/DJ

On the Ship : Thomson Spirit

Which sail's around : The Canary Island's

Yeah baby - a cruise ship! The contract is for 6 month's and should be the most amazing experience. I have to do a SOLAS (Saftey of Life at Sea)Certificate course which starts the Monday after SYETE finishes and runs for a week in.....Leeds (man my life is just too d**n freaky sometimes) and then I start on the ship Decmeber 13th.

One of the only bad points about this is I'm not going to be at home for Christmas, or my Birthday, or Jo's(Sis #1)Birthday. Christmas is the major one. It'll be really hard being away, but being on the ship should be cool that day, as it's a family cruise so all the kids will be really excited :)

Get that motor runnin....

Man, I have been rather lax at updating. Probably because I've been working random hours and have been setting up a webblog for a friend of mine from church who's going to Uganda for 6 months - brave girl!

I have also just created one for my car. This is not as crazy as it seems. Whilst in the continual process of keeping my beloved Morris Minor looking snazy aswell as roadworthy I have been taking photo's to help me if I could ever have to undertake these tasks again.

Then it struck me that perhaps some other people (mainly girl's like me!) might find it useful and possibly interesting if I started a blog about Moggy maintenance. Nothing official but just the things I do, interesting Morris Minor links, stuff like that. We'll see how it goes!

At the moment I'm in the middle of respraying the wheels, the grill and all the rusty bits which I have neglected ready for the first big trip up north to see my new flat. I'm leaving after rehearsal tomorrow night, driving up to Leeds, sleeping, running lots of errands and then driving back to work in the evening. Have a feeling large amounts of coffee may be imbibed!

I'm excites to see my flat, it is my official move out of home place so the pressure's on! I'm moving in with Penny and Anna. I've known Penny for about 10 years (WTH? How old am I?) and Anna is her girlfriend. I haven't seen either of them for 2 years so it's gonna be bizarre, but good fun :)

It's clearing!

Haha, I can almost breathe through my nose again! Still under the lurgy spell, I've now got a blocked nose and a *lovely* chesty cough but at least I feel human.

PB has been good this week. Gained some more knowledge inc: some new cocktail's, how to work the coffee machine (which involved scalding myself - but we'll gloss over that!) and how to cook the evening's food. Not bad for a week's work! Steph and Kat are supervisor's at the minute but they will be back at Uni and in Canada (respectively) in 2 weeks so I will be left with loads of day shifts - almost like a real job. The only down side is that I get caught in the seemingly endless traffic coming out if Birmingham but hey, you can't have everything!

Rehearsal's for SYETE are going pretty well. It felt weird when I went to my first one 2 weeks ago. But they were all having a laugh (especially Adam - playing Sir Justin Holbrook, the guy who's hired me - who was behaving very oddly!) and it helped me relax.

I'm finding it quite tricky to be elegant and sexy, there are times when I wonder why my character is on stage at all - as Joy (Lady Holbrook) said "I have acres of nothing", but on the whole it's cool. They went into great discussion in the pub about what I'm wearing. The high heels, stockings and suspenders go without saying, but the decision is split between:

a slinky slit cocktail dress OR a short skirt and top,

answers on a postcard please! As Ted (The Director) pointed out, they've never seen my legs so they don't know which to suggest. So I guess muggins here will have to wear my short skirt to 'help' them decide! This is quite a bizarre experience - they've known me since I was 15!

I felt awful on Wednesday night so I wasn't exactly at my best. My character keeps getting caught up in all the action but basically just wants to go home and go to bed - I could totally sympathise with her that night!

*Whimper*

I've got a cold - again!

This one snuck up on me though. I was sat in rehearsal last night when at about 9pm I got the 'pre-cold tingle' in my throat.

This usually gives me about 12 hours warning - enough time to down a load of hot drinks, vitamin C - and if possible some cold capsule's - and head it off before it gets it's grimy hands on my sinus system.

This one however had other plans.

Went to the pub after rehearsal's started to feel rough and then when I got home - about 11:30pm my nose started running and I was in full "feel like poo" mode. I mean, just what the heck is that about? I know there's no cure for The Common Cold TM but come on, at least it could stick to the plan!

Wil Wheaton saved my Sanity!

You may remember this enthsiastic post about me buying the book I've been looking forward to all summer - "Just A Geek"

Well, I did indeed spend 11 hours in Newark airport most of which passed very quickly thanks to this well written piece of literature.

I started reading it at about 11:30pm, positioned on a seat facing the runway with my legs draped over my luggage in an effort to stop them being pinched/taken away by security..... It had been a long day....OK?

On the surface it appears to be a book about how Wil Wheaton came about writing a book. But it is made so much more than that because of the soul searching and honesty that goes into it. I am a fan of Wil's blog, I've read it for almost 2 years now, so the way he intergrates what he posted with actually how he felt at the time was interesting.

He is blatantly honest about the times when he was trying to come across as 'the guy who's cool with all the crap being thrown at him' when actually it was making him mad and what he wanted to do was rant and rave. It's very reassuring to see how he finally brought that honesty onto his webblog and how people responded to it in a mostly positive way. The 'honesty' factor is something that many people with webblog's (including myself) wrestle with, thus making his struggles with it relatable.

His story telling style is great. Whether it's about his experience on the Star Trek: Nemesis set and all the emotions that brought out, or his audition experiences, he makes you feel involved and present; so much you can almost smell the atmosphere.

His experiences are pretty unique but the emotion's and 'demon's' he has had to deal with are common to most people in some way or other. This is what makes this book so readable and fascinating.

I had one break in the middle of reading it - my eye's were hurting so I sat and watched some Fed-Ex planes take-off to unknown destination's and got a coffee, then I started again and read right through - even the appendices. I was just finishing as the sun started to rise (no, honestly!)and it seemed like a very fitting ending.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who keeps a webblog, who is anywhere around Wil's age, and anyone who enjoy's a good honest read.

Talk about long memory...

If you read the small paragraph at the top of my side bar you will find it says "happenings of my bizarre life"

Here is a case in point.

I get back from America - I am in a play, I have a job at PB and all is rosy for a while. As soon as I get back (a week ago) I start looking for work with YTV for after the play. I have done 3 work placements with them (mainly on 'Heartbeat') so I feel this is a do-able option.

2 days after my initial phone call one of my best friends - Penny - rings me out of the blue to see how I am etc, and mentions that she is having to find a flat in Leeds with her girlfriend. "Well, what a coincidence" says I, "I may have to move up there soon". So the flat hunt begins.

Yesterday - 5 days after that phone call, the flat is pretty much signed for and arranged and YTV have my CV.

This morning I was just pondering phoning them again to see how the land is lying when my mobile rang (actually this was about 5 mins ago!). I answered and it was PEEL, a company I interviewed for 2 years ago. They supply entertainment crew on Cruise ships - something I've always fancied having a go at. They were ringing to see if I was a) still interested, b) available and c) able to go for an interview in...Get this...Leeds! in a couple of weeks.

Well, now I'm in a quandary... They asked me to send them my CV - so I shall. But I don't know what to do about the whole flat situation and getting a job at YTV - arggghhh. Penny and Anna are signing for the flat - so when I move I'll be helping them pay the rent, bills, etc and the whole job situation with YTV could go either way. Hmmmmmmmm........

I'm baaaackkk

Well, the travels are over.

Right now I have a strange feeling of being suspended above my own existence - it always happens when I get back. I feel really odd for about a week; however this time I'm having to dive sraight into work and rehearsals - so feeling the pressure a bit!

I've met up with Clare + Brett and with Son already so I feel more at home. Man - the kids have grown so much! It was so cool to see them all - weird, but cool. And the weather here is being helpful - all sunny, hot but fresh, helps with the old hormone and emotion quota!

My DVD player has almost turned it's little toes up - I've never cleaned however, so I've been to buy a kit for it - it better wok, I just did the 'thing' to make it multi region last night - and I want to watch my NEW Dick Van Dyke Show DVD's on my TV instead of my laptop with all the background noise!

Yes, I am now indeed the proud owner of the first season/series (still reverting to my native tongue!) of this Fabulous show! It is so well written, really good chemistry between the cast and *nice* to watch. They don't show it over here (like they do Bewitched) so I've seen it on "TVLand" in the states. Just before I left Michigan I saw it on sale and checked to see if it was avaliable at home.

It's not, they don't even have a region 2 version! So I per-chased it and have now seen the whole thing - brilliant, also has some commentaries etc - a gag reel would be a good addition but it's cool as it is!

For my photo's of the whole summer then check the 'Snaps, Piccie's and photo's' button on the side bar.

Crabs

Well, I thought I'd seen, or at least heard of, the most random things this country could offer but no, on Saturday the bar just got pushed that much higher.

I was in the Mall, just having been tot the Sears Sale (how cool that I went to Sears sale - man, now I really sound like a tourist!)and I see this big group of people around one of the carts (you know - the little kiosk things where the small business' are) so I went to look.

And there it was - the bizarrest pet's money could buy - Hermit Crab's. Yup, and not just any Hermit Crab's - but one's with painted shells: swirly colour's, flag's - SpongeBob Squarepants even. I can see the attraction for about a week - novelty factor and all - but what can they do really? I mean you can buy them a new shell - in fact a whole wardrobe if you felt like it, after all they can live in whatever they find to hide in. Apparently you only have to feed them once a week and clean their cage out twice a year, so not exactly high maintenance. But still, a Hermit crab, Really?

Struck me as weird, but hey, what do I know.

I have THE Book Baby - oh Yeah!

Greetings from a chilled out British chick in Michigan!

Camp is over....wOOt! ANd we are free YEY!

NYC was like a mission - I knew exactly what I wanted and I went and got.
However at some point on my 1-hour-mad-dash-before-I-have-to-catch-the-plane I came out of the wrong subway station, and what to my wondering eye's did appear?

Barnes & Noble.

I'd come out on 5th Avenue by mistake, and found the bookshop I had been longing to find - and so I went in, straight to the desk and held my breath as the be-spectacled man behind the counter tapped in the information to find it.....

Yes! They had it. He led me over to the shelf - there was a gap on the bottom row...oh no... had the geek population of New York beaten me to it?.....

But HURRAH he put his hand into the void and pulled out......'Just a Geek'.

Wil Wheaton's book is now finally my posession - and I achieved my aim of buying it off the shelf from a bookstore in America, I am a happy geek!

Don't you just love coincidence?

I am going to save the reading spectacular until my 11 hour stop over in Newark airport though, expect a review next week sometime!!!!

Julie Andrews: Singing and Mattress Surfing

The Princess Diaries 2 ROCKS!!!

It's not out in the UK 'til October - so spread the word. It's classy feel good, that'll make you 'tiny clap' with delight. It has it all, romance for all ages, 2 VERY funny maid's - a duke of KENILWORTH (of all places!), some one liner's you'll be qouting for ages.."SHUT UP" & "It wasn't her...It was a ghost...OOoooOOoo"..

and of course, the one and only..

Julie Andrews

Life can really deal it, can't it?

Well, here I am in my final few days of camp.

We had our dress rehearsal today - alhtough thanks to some administrative genius of thought - we had no audienece. Still it went well and the kids are really starting to have fun with Dylan Thomas' piece of Welsh life!

A couple of things:

One of my kids (Danielle) had a nose bleed yesterday.

It started at 12 midday

It stopped at 10:30pm

She told the nurse at 9pm

Then wondered why she felt so dizzy?

She said she didn't want to make a fuss because her mum (sorry, Mom) calls her a drama queen when she complains. Now, this could be just me, but if you been having a nose bleed for anything more than an hour - I'm pretty sure 'mentioning' it to someone (or quite frankly, running hysterically to the nurse) doesn't count as being a drama queen......

And the other truly heinous event of this week.

Another of my girl's (Mikki) went home today.

Her Gran died a couple of days ago and her mum came to pick her up and take her home. (The funeral is on Sunday) Sounds sensible enough. But Mikki wasn't told, until her mum arrived at Stagedoor told her, and then she had to pack up and leave to catch a flight that night. Mikki didn't know her mum was even coming.

I was told last night. I was so glad I was told then and not - as TPTB had decided - this morning. It meant I got chance to spend extra time with her, make sure they had a room photo and all that stuff, so as today was not so traumatic. It was hard being in the room with them (and going down to check on 'Elle at the nurse) and knowing that tommorow her emotions were going to go through the ringer. It almost broke my heart when her mum showed up at mail meeting (we were all seated in the lobby) and Mikki's face lit up and she was all excited because her mum was here.

She was great though. Reacted the way I probably would have done. Had a little cry, and then went straight to the practicalities. I just know it's going to hit her when she gets home.

Oh... and they've decide to send me on the airport trip. This airport trip means - getting up at the crack of dawn, running round the airport's with the kids and coming straight home. Not exactly what I was looking forward to! Still it'll be a break from here.

Another Lady has left.....

And now there really are only two!

All is going well here - although we are now all counting down the days to Freedom - wOOt!

I'm on 'Grounds' at the mo (I know - you have to check the computer room..errr...it's important!)and I was standing in the field looking at the amazingly starry sky when I saw a shooting star - very cool. The sky is wonderful tonight - realy depth because of all the visible stars, just the thing to help with the 'big picture'.

I have a job for when I get home! Check out this website to see the new bar in Birmingham (owned by the folks who owned "The Opal Lounge"), very classy and I can get work during the day which'll leave me free to rehearse etc in the evening. Life is on track :)

I've also booked my plane ticket to Michigan, so I get one night in godd ol' NYC before heading to the 'mitten' state to see my American Family, the Van Kampens. I'm so excited to see them again :)

Have all my lines down for Act One (and pretty much Act 2) of "Shut Your Eyes, and think of England", just aswell as I've been informed that they are now books down (doing it without the script) on pages 1-17 - which happens to be the bit where most of my lines are!

..and then there were 2...

Once upon a time there was a room called 316 at a castle called Stagedoor Manor. It contained 3 bunk beds.

5 ladies were destined for this room, to fill it's days with their laughter and sleep.

Only 4 of these ladies made the journey to the room. 1 lady decided to stay home instead of venture out.

After 2 of the ladies arrived, the queen required that 1 of the bunk beds be removed and be replaced with a single bed, and it was so.

Then 1 other lady arrived and all was well with in the land of 316. Until the Queen decided that 4 of the dressers must be switched so that the children of the castle could have matching one's - and it was so.

And with unmatching dresser's the last lady arrived and all was peaceful for 1 moon.

Then it rained and rained for many days in the room of 316 and the roof did leak. So one of the ladies was forced to change beds.

All was then peaceful for 1 moon.

Until one day it transpired that the Queen had placed 6 children in a room with 5 beds, and so it was that the 4 ladies lost another bunk bed and it was replaced with single bed.

1 of the ladies had spied a more suitable abode further along the castle hall and so left that wonderful land. Another lady then found a handsome Prince with whom to spend time and so was rarely seen in that magical room.

So now there are 2 ladies in the sunny, breezy, drippy land of 316, and (hopefully) they all lived happily ever after.

New Beginning's

.....and breathed..... (with coughing and blocked nose!)

Well, having recovered form the annoyance below we are now in our second day of third session and it's looking tentatively OK.

I have an entirlely new room who seem cool - if a bit loud! Mallory, Mikki, (Dani)Elle, Rachel, Katie + Joanna - same name as Sis #1, funky!

My show is 'Under Milk Wood', am waiting with baited breath to see if we're doing the welsh accents or not!

Have still got a blocked nose and keep waking up coughing which is a real pain - especially as I can't take the medication over here. Find Dextromathoraphan in a medical glossary and look at : syptoms of overdose/hypersensitivity!

Am attempting to sort my life out for when I get home. Have finally sorted out the bank's ENOURMOUS screw up, of closing my account because they though a loan closure for was an accout closure form. And have just left messages with 2 people about jobs. Got to be honest, am really looking forward to going home and seeing my friends and family. I'm really enjoying it here but I keep thinking of stuff I'd like to do/organise :)

arggghhh

I am as my imood indicates : feeling - lousy

I've had a stinking cold for the last 2 days - not helped by the incredibly warm and humid weather. On top of that mother Nature kicked in so I had that to deal with aswell. All in all it was not good. I passed out on Thursday but mainly due to tiredness. And then today my medication wore off during the second half of my show so I felt like crap. Then they called the nurse and I was in bed for the rest of the day.

I've have now been informed that because of this illness I can't go on the airport trip tommorow and I am severely p****d off because a) the people who made this decision didn't come and see me - they took the word of other people b) It's not like I was skipping any duties - I had off time and should have been watching a show with my cast. If the nurse hadn't been called noone would have even known I was in bed!

And plus - I'll probably be fine tommorow, i know my own body pretty well! But now they won't let me go and (as if to make it better) they're trying to make so I don't do anything on Sunday - how the heck is that going to help me?

arrgghh I just want to go and kick something.......

....and breathe.....

Drive In's rule!

My Day off was a bit of a wash-out - literally. It was throwing it down when I left - but I drove the scenic route to the rafting place. Got there too late though :(

Still I did stop for uch in a great little town called Calicoon. Found some funky/random presents and generally pottered. It was hot and sunny there, which was nice - and the drive was great.

So could not go for aquatic fun but then decided to have a drive round Sullivan county. I went round nearly all the lakes! TRhen about 7:30 I decided I'd like to find the Drive-In Movie theatre. I drove in terrential rain down route 17, looking behind me avery 10secs (that's the only way you can see the screen!) I was just about to give up when ...there it was.

I took the next exit and turned back on myself and found it - man it looked dodgy going in! It was sooo cool though! You drive in get your ticket tell them which 2 movies you want to see, and the lady tells you which screen (there are 2) and what staion to tune your radio to (that's how you get the sound!)
It was just so cool to actually be at a drive in - and I saw 'I-Robot' and 'Anchorman'.

Eventually - I'm going on that flippin' river!!!!!

I am finally Pocahontas!

Ah me, today is my day off - I was (yet again!) going rafting - but the heavens opened and done came the rain. I'm still going to drive over there to check it out - nobody's coming so a nice chilled day by myself to pontificate and learn lines!

Here are some piccie's from the "Fairy Tales + Fantasy" Party:

I had a 'Stand By Me' Moment the other day. I was at the playhouse (trying to find someone to return their key), it was dark and quiet - I saw something walking down the road and, thinking it was a local, tried to make myself invisible..... by standing still - I know, I scare myself soemtimes. Anyhoo, it was a deer. It stopped on the other side of the road (I was about 3ft from the edge of the road) and we just looked at each other.

She didn't run

She didn't look scared, we were just watching each other.

And then she left - pretty cool!

Rehearsals are going well, the cast is great, I'm having a blast with Brad, Jacob and Jane (The Director, MD and Dance Captain) so all is pretty good.
